Standard EN SampleStandard for Electric Motors and Generators for Use in Division 1 Hazardous (Classified) Locations
Also Known As:
The UL 674:2020 standard establishes guidelines for electric motors, generators, and other rotating machinery used in hazardous locations. The standard applies to equipment suitable for use in Class I, Division 1, Groups B, C, and D, as well as Class II, Division 1, Groups E, F, and G hazardous locations as defined by relevant electrical codes such as the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), National Electrical Code (NEC), and NOM-001–SEDE.
In addition to covering electric motors and generators, the standard also includes submersible and nonsubmersible sewage pumps and systems. It also extends its scope to include the installation and use of the specified electrical equipment in Class I, Zone 1, Groups IIA and IIB, IIB+H2, as well as Zone 20 and 21 hazardous locations.
However, the UL 674 standard is limited to addressing explosion-proof or dust-ignition-proof types of protection and does not encompass other types of protection. Moreover, it is important to note that the standard does not incorporate Canadian energy efficiency or product performance requirements. Additional requirements for energy efficiency or product performance may be found in Annex A, item 19, which may be referenced in federal, provincial, territorial, or local energy efficiency or product performance laws and regulations. It is advised to consult the appropriate governmental authorities to confirm the applicability of item 19 in specific jurisdictions.
