UL 1429:2020 PDF Download

The UL 1429:2020 standard provides requirements for non-enclosed and enclosed pullout switches of the detachable type. These requirements are applicable to pullout switches rated up to 600 V and 400 A, with or without horsepower ratings, and with or without high-available fault current ratings.

The standard covers pullout switches mounted in complete enclosures, which may include meter sockets or neutral assemblies. It also includes enclosed pullout switches intended for use as service equipment. Non-enclosed pullout switches used as mains and branches in panelboards, switchboards, and similar applications are also covered.

However, the standard does not cover hinged pullout switches, as these are addressed in another UL standard called "UL 98 - Standard for Enclosed and Dead-Front Switches." Furthermore, enclosed pullout switches containing multiple independent switches fall under the scope of the "UL 67 - Standard for Panelboards" and are not covered by UL 1429.

If a product falls within the scope of UL 1429 but incorporates new features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems that pose fire risk, electric shock risk, or risks to personnel, it must be evaluated using additional requirements to maintain the intended level of safety. Products that conflict with specific requirements or provisions of this standard are considered non-compliant, and any revisions to the requirements should follow the appropriate methods employed for the development, revision, and implementation of the standard.
