Standard EN SampleExplosive Atmospheres - Part 25: Intrinsically Safe Electrical Systems
Also Known As:
The UL 60079-25:2020 standard outlines the specific requirements for the construction and assessment of intrinsically safe electrical systems. These systems, designated with type of protection "i," are intended for use in hazardous locations classified as Class I, Zone 0, 1, or 2, or Zone 20, 21, or 22, as defined by the National Electrical Code (NEC) and ANSI/NFPA 70.
The standard is designed to be used by system designers, including manufacturers, specialist consultants, or members of the end-user's staff. It supplements and modifies the general requirements outlined in ANSI/ISA-60079-0, ANSI/ISA-61241-0, IEC 60079-0, and the intrinsic safety standard ANSI/ISA-60079-11, ANSI/ISA-61241-11, IEC 60079-11. In cases of conflicts between the requirements of this standard and other referenced standards, the requirements of UL 60079-25 take precedence.
For systems designed in accordance with this standard, the installation requirements for Group II or Group III are specified in the National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA 70 and IEC 60079-14. It should be noted that Group I installation requirements are currently not provided in IEC 60079-14.
