Standard EN SampleStandard for Low Voltage Lighting Systems
Also Known As:
The UL 2108:2021 standard provides requirements for low voltage lighting systems and components that are intended for permanent installation and for use in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), Article 411. The standard is not applicable to certain types of luminaires, including those with integral power supplies, luminaires intended for branch circuit connection, luminaires mounted to and relocatable along a track, handheld or non-connected luminaires, and luminaires integrated with a power unit. These types of luminaires are covered by other standards such as UL 153, UL 1574, UL 1576, and UL 1598.
The standard also specifies that light emitting diode (LED) components, controls, and subassemblies that are integral to a low voltage luminaire or power unit covered by this standard must comply with the applicable requirements of the Standard for Light Emitting Diode (LED) Equipment for Use in Lighting Products (UL 8750). Furthermore, it is important to note that the UL 2108:2021 standard does not address certain specialized applications, such as hazardous/classified locations, emergency lighting, air-handling luminaires, or luminaires installed over cooking equipment. For these specialized applications, low voltage lighting system equipment should be investigated in accordance with relevant standards written specifically for those purposes.
