Standard EN SampleStandard for Safety for Household and Similar Electrical Appliances, Part 2: Particular Requirements for Shavers, Hair Clippers, and Similar Appliances
Also Known As:
UL 60335-2-8:2021 is a standard for the safety of household and similar electrical appliances, specifically focusing on shavers, hair clippers, and similar devices. The standard applies to both mains-supplied and battery-operated appliances, with a rated voltage of up to 250V. It also includes examples of similar appliances such as epilators and manicure tools.
The scope of the standard extends beyond normal household use, and includes appliances that may pose a danger to the public, such as animal clippers and hairdresser appliances. However, the standard does not fully address the safety requirements for individuals with physical, sensory, or mental limitations, or for children who may play with the appliance. Additional requirements may be needed for appliances used in vehicles, ships, or aircraft, and national health authorities and labor protection authorities may specify additional requirements in different countries.
The standard does not apply to appliances intended for use in locations with special conditions, such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres, massage appliances (covered by IEC 60335-2-32), or appliances for medical purposes (covered by IEC 60601).
There are also modifications to the standard, including an updated paragraph and note that specifically mention the inclusion of epilators and refer to their installation or use following NFPA 70, National Electrical Code (NEC). Additionally, a note is added to include lather makers, barber shop vacuum cleaners, personal grooming appliances, and hair removal devices that fall under different UL standards.
