Standard for Microwave Cooking Appliances
Also Known As:
The UL 923:2020 standard specifies the requirements for household and commercial microwave cooking appliances. These appliances operate in the Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) bands of 915 ±25 and 2450 ±50 MHz, and they are intended for use in ordinary locations in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70). The appliances covered by this standard are rated up to 600 V.
Additionally, the standard covers microwave cooking appliances designed for various installation methods, including built-in installation, side-by-side mounting, stacking, wall mounting, and installation over ranges. It distinguishes between commercial microwave cooking equipment typically found in commercial kitchens, restaurants, and business establishments, and household microwave cooking equipment intended for household use.
Furthermore, the UL 923 standard also includes provisions for the microwave cooking portion of a household electric range. This means that if the microwave cooking functions are integrated into a household electric range, it must comply with both UL 923 and the Standard for Household Electric Ranges (UL 858).
