Standard for Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment
Also Known As:
UL 2594:2016 is a standard that addresses the requirements for conductive electric vehicle (EV) supply equipment. The standard applies to equipment with a primary source voltage of 600 V ac or less and a frequency of 50 or 60 Hz. It is specifically intended to provide ac power to an electric vehicle with an on-board charging unit.
The standard covers different types of electric vehicle supply equipment, including EV cord sets, fastened in place EV charging stations, fixed in place EV charging stations, and fixed in place EV power outlets. These devices have specific voltage and current ratings and may be intended for indoor or outdoor use. The standard provides guidelines for their design, construction, and safety features.
It is important to note that the standard does not cover cord sets or power supply cords for applications other than EV charging cord sets. It also excludes electric vehicle charging equipment, electric vehicle connectors, and regular-use power outlets, as these have their own specific standards. Additionally, the standard does not cover equipment intended for wireless power transfer, which involves power transfer without a conductive connection.
The products covered by this standard are intended for use in accordance with the Installation Codes provided in Annex A of the standard. Compliance with UL 2594:2016 ensures that electric vehicle supply equipment meets the necessary safety and performance requirements.
