Standard EN SampleImpact Resistance of Roofing Systems
Also Known As:
The UL 2218A:2019 standard provides a test method for evaluating the impact resistance of low slope roofing systems. The standard applies to roofing systems that consist of various component materials installed on combustible or noncombustible decking.
The standard specifies that it does not cover the impact resistance testing for prepared roof covering materials, as that is covered under a separate standard UL 2218. Instead, it focuses on evaluating the impact resistance of the entire roofing system.
The test evaluates the effect of impact from a steel ball at vulnerable locations on the roofing system, such as edges, corners, unsupported sections, and joints. The goal is to determine the ability of the roofing system to withstand impacts in these critical areas.
It is important to note that the standard does not evaluate the impact resistance of roofing system components in relation to factors like weathering, temperature, aging, or other external factors. These factors can influence the performance of roofing materials in real-world conditions, but they are not addressed in this test method.
