Standard for Low-Voltage Switchgear and Controlgear - Part 1: General Rules
Also Known As:
UL 60947-1:2019 is a standard for low-voltage switchgear and controlgear, which refers to equipment that is designed to be connected to circuits with a rated voltage not exceeding 1,000 V AC or 1,500 V DC. It does not apply to low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies that are covered by IEC 60439. The standard aims to establish general rules and requirements that are applicable to low-voltage equipment, including definitions, characteristics, information provided with the equipment, normal service, mounting and transport conditions, constructional and performance requirements, and verification of characteristics and performance.
The standard also includes provisions for digital inputs and/or digital outputs in switchgear and controlgear that are intended to be compatible with programmable controllers. Additionally, there are modifications to the standard in the form of Annex dvb, which include specific requirements for installation in ordinary locations, exclusions of certain parts of IEC 60947-2 and IEC 60947-3, and considerations for equipment operating at different voltage levels in different countries, such as Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
