Standard EN SampleStandard for Batteries for Use in Light Electric Vehicle (LEV) Applications
Also Known As: ANSI/CAN/UL/ULC 2271
The UL 2271:2018 standard provides requirements and guidelines for electrical energy storage assemblies (EESAs) used in light electric-powered vehicles (LEVs). This includes battery packs and combination battery pack-electrochemical capacitor assemblies, as well as the subassembly/modules that make up these assemblies.
It is important to note that this standard does not assess the performance or reliability of these devices. Instead, it focuses on establishing safety requirements for their use in LEVs.
Furthermore, the standard specifically excludes the evaluation of EESAs intended for use in electric vehicles for public roadways or heavy-duty off-road vehicles, as these are covered by a separate standard (UL 2580 / ULC-S2580).
Additionally, the standard does not include requirements for the evaluation of EESAs used in light electric rail (LER) applications. These are covered under a different standard, specifically the Standard for Batteries for Use in Stationary, Vehicle Auxiliary Power, and Light Electric Rail (LER) Applications, UL 1973.
