The UL 1090:2020 standard specifies the requirements for cord-connected electrically operated snow movers rated at 250 V or less. These requirements pertain to snow movers that are intended for use in accordance with the National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA 70). The standard also covers battery-operated snow movers as specified in the Battery Powered Gardening Appliances, Supplement SA.

It is important to note that this standard does not apply to riding-type snow movers or those intended for commercial, industrial, or hazardous locations as defined in the National Electrical Code. Aside from the requirements outlined in this standard, a snow mover must also comply with specific sections of the Snow Throwers – Safety Specifications (ANSI B71.3), including those related to markings, durability, and permanency. There is an exception regarding markings, which can be considered durable and permanent if they comply with the Permanency of Marking section outlined in this standard.
