Standard EN SampleSuspended Ceiling Grid Low Voltage Systems and Equipment
Also Known As:
The UL 2577:2018 standard addresses the requirements for low voltage/extra-low voltage systems and equipment used in suspended ceiling grids. These systems are intended to be installed and used in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code (CSA C22.1) in Canada and the National Electrical Code (NEC) in the United States.
The standard defines the components of the low voltage/extra-low voltage system, which include an isolating type power supply operating at 30 V or less, a grid rail power distribution system, and Class 2 powered equipment. These components are designed to provide mechanical support for ceiling tiles and electrical connections between the power supply and the equipment.
The standard specifies that the suspended ceiling grid low voltage/extra-low voltage system must be permanently connected and installed indoors in dry locations. Installation should adhere to the relevant electrical installation standards in Canada and the United States, as well as building codes such as the International Building Code and International Mechanical Code.
This standard also covers systems intended for use in air-handling spaces but does not address requirements for hazardous locations, patient care areas, or emergency systems. It also does not evaluate the system for seismic requirements or fire resistance.
