Standard for Automatic Electrical Controls for Household and Similar Use; Part 2: Particular Requirements for Electrically Operated Water Valves, Including Mechanical Requirements

SKU163874791 Published by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. UL Publication Date2017-05-10 Pages CountPages65

UL 60730-2-8:2017 is a standard that applies to electrically operated water valves used in household and similar equipment, such as heating and air-conditioning systems. It covers the inherent safety of these valves, as well as their operating values, times, and sequences related to equipment safety. The standard also includes requirements for the electrical and mechanical features of the valves that affect their intended operation.

The scope of the standard includes valves for appliances within the scope of IEC 60335, which covers safety requirements for household and similar electrical appliances. It also covers valves used in equipment not intended for normal household use but may be used by the public, such as equipment used in shops, light industry, and farms.

However, there are certain exceptions to the scope of the standard. It does not apply to valves with a nominal connection size above DN 50 or admissible nominal pressure ratings above 1.6 MPa. It also does not cover food dispensers, detergent dispensers, steam valves, or electrically operated water valves designed exclusively for industrial applications.

The standard defines terms such as "valve" (electrically operated water valve), "actuator" (electrically operated mechanism or prime mover), "valve body" (valve body assembly), and "equipment" (including appliances and control systems). It also applies to actuators and valve bodies designed to be fitted to each other, as well as individual valves, valves used as part of a system, and valves mechanically integral with multi-functional controls with non-electrical outputs.

Finally, the standard references other applicable normative documents, including IEC 60335 (all parts), which sets safety requirements for household and similar electrical appliances, and IEC 60730-1:2010, which specifies general requirements for automatic electrical controls. It also references various ISO standards related to pipe threads, carbon steel tubes, structural steels, connections, and plug connectors used in fluid power systems.
