Standard EN SampleStandard for Connectors and Switches for Use with Burglar-Alarm Systems
Also Known As:
The UL 634:2020 standard specifies the requirements for connectors and switches used in burglar-alarm systems. These requirements are applicable in various settings, including mercantile premises, safes, vaults, banks, government and corporate locations, and residences. The standard ensures that the connectors and switches comply with the National Electrical Code's Article 725, which pertains to limited energy circuits.
The standard covers a wide range of connectors and switches, including insulated contact springs and mating brackets, magnetically actuated and mercury switches, heat, smoke, and vibration detectors, floor mats, floor traps, special contacts for safes and vaults, flexible connectors, foil connectors, and shunting devices. These components play a crucial role in protective circuits, supervising doors, windows, hatches, vents, trap doors, and similar openings to trigger an alarm signal when activated.
The connectors addressed by UL 634 are used to join various parts of protective circuit components and wiring. It should be noted that some of the products covered by this standard may require an external source of electrical energy that is not integrated within the product itself.
Installation of the products covered by UL 634 should follow the guidelines specified in either UL 681, which pertains to the installation and classification of burglar and holdup alarm systems, or UL 1641, which addresses the installation and classification of residential burglar alarm systems. These installation standards ensure that the connectors and switches are properly integrated into the overall alarm system setup.
