Standard for Electric Aquarium Equipment

The UL 1018:2020 standard specifies the safety requirements for commercial and household electric equipment intended for use on or in aquariums in indoor locations with a voltage of 300 volts or less. This includes various equipment such as heaters, pumps, filters, aerators, reflectors, hoods, electrically wired stands, and similar devices.
The standard excludes illuminators or stands not specifically designed for use with aquariums, as well as aquarium tanks themselves, unless the tank serves as an enclosure or water barrier for fittings integrated into the base or wall of the tank, such as filters, heaters, or UV units.
In cases where aquarium equipment involves tungsten-halogen or high-intensity discharge lamps, additional requirements from the Standard for Portable Electric Luminaires, designated as UL 153, must be met.
