Also Known As:
The UL 486G:2018 standard specifies the requirements for wire connectors used with copper conductors in accordance with the National Electrical Code, Canadian Electrical Code, and NOM 001 SEDE. These connectors are intended for various installations, including those in dry, damp, and wet locations, both above and below grade.
Additionally, the standard covers connectors used in lighting systems operating at 30 volts or less and connected to a Class 2 power source. These connectors can be installed in dry, damp, or wet locations, direct buried locations, or below or above grade, as long as they are protected from direct exposure to sunlight.
In Canada, the standard also applies to connectors used in Class 2 circuits located in various locations, while in the United States and Mexico, it includes both Class 2 and Class 3 circuits.
The connectors are suitable for use with single or multiple conductor cables designed for direct burial, below grade use, or wet locations. They can accommodate copper conductors ranging from 30 AWG to 6 AWG and are rated for ampacities of insulated conductors at either 75 °C or 90 °C. The use of these connectors is limited to voltages of 600 V or less.
Finally, for products intended for use in Canada, general requirements are outlined in CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 0.
