The UL 452:2021 standard establishes requirements for the design and performance of antenna-discharge units used in radio and television receiving equipment, as well as amateur radio-transmitting and -receiving equipment. These units are intended to be used in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70).
The standard defines an antenna-discharge unit, also known as a discharge unit, as a device that includes a gap, a fixed resistance, or other discharge element, or a combination of these features. The discharge unit is connected between each antenna lead-in terminal and a grounding terminal.
