Standard ENStandard for Concrete Masonry Units
Also Known As:
UL 618:2020 is a standard that specifies the requirements for concrete masonry units that are classified for use in fire resistive walls. These requirements are in accordance with the conditions of acceptance of the Standard for Fire Tests of Building Construction and Materials, UL 263. The standard classifies concrete masonry units into three categories: 2-hour units, 3-hour units, and 4-hour units. Each of these units is intended for use in fire resistive walls with corresponding ratings.
The standard also emphasizes the importance of evaluating any product that contains new or different features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems which may pose risks such as fire, electric shock, or injury to persons. Such products need to be assessed using additional component and end-product requirements to ensure that the level of safety anticipated by the standard is maintained. If a product's features conflict with the specific requirements of the standard, it will not be considered compliant. In such cases, proposed revisions to the requirements should be made and implemented in accordance with the standard's development and revision methods.
