Standard EN SampleStandard for Service-Entrance Cables
Also Known As:
UL 854:2020 is a standard that covers the requirements for Type USE, USE-2, and Type SE power cables. These cables are used for service entrance and other applications as described in the National Electrical Code. The standard specifies that the cables should have insulation rated for 600V and be made of solid, extruded dielectric materials suitable for wet locations at temperatures of 75°C and lower. Cables with insulation marked "HH" are also suitable for dry locations at temperatures up to 90°C.
The standard also addresses the use of aluminum conductors, specifying that cables containing aluminum conductors should be marked to identify them as aluminum or copper-clad aluminum. The aluminum conductors in these cables should be of a specific grade or alloy. Additionally, the standard defines the characteristics and construction of various types of cables such as single-rated Type USE cable, Type SE cable, and submersible pump cables.
It is important to note that this standard does not cover metal-clad cables (Type MC) or medium-voltage cables (Type MV), as those are covered by separate UL standards.
