Standard ENStandard for Fire Test of Insulated Wall Construction
Also Known As:
The UL 1040:2022 standard outlines the testing procedures and requirements for insulated wall constructions. The standard focuses on conducting a large-scale corner test to evaluate the ability of field or prefabricated insulated wall panels to resist the spread of flames over a simulated interior wall surface. Additionally, it assesses the ability of the insulating material to withstand damage caused by fire exposure.
It is important to note that this standard does not evaluate the fire resistance provided by the structural members of the test structure, such as columns, beams, and girders. The scope of this standard is specific to insulated wall panels and does not cover panels intended for other uses. For evaluating other building materials and assemblies, there are separate test standards available, including the Standard for Test for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials, UL 723; the Standard for Fire Tests of Building Construction and Materials, UL 263; the Standard for Test Methods for Fire Resistance of Roof-Covering Materials, UL 790; and the Standard for Fire Test of Roof Deck Constructions, UL 1256.
If a product deviates from the features, components, or characteristics covered by this standard, additional component and end-product requirements should be applied to maintain the intended level of safety. Any conflicts between a product's features and the specific requirements of this standard indicate non-compliance. Any proposed revisions to the requirements should follow the established methods for development, revision, and implementation of the standard.
