Flexible Cords and Cables

The UL 62:2018 standard specifies the requirements for various types of flexible cords and cables. This standard applies to cords and cables rated up to 600 V for applications in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), the Norma de Instalaciones Electricas in Mexico, and the National Electrical Code (NEC) in the United States.
The standard covers a wide range of products including service cords, elevator cables, hoistway cables, heater cords, range and dryer cords, cords for decorative lighting, tinsel and lamp cords, special use cords, and electric vehicle cables.
In cases where certain product types are only approved for use in specific countries, national differences are indicated with superscript letters. For example, a superscript "c" denotes that the product is for use in Canada only, "m" indicates use in Mexico only, and "u" signifies use in the United States only. Combinations of superscripts indicate use in multiple countries.
The standard provides guidance on the key requirements and specifications for flexible cords and cables, ensuring their safe and reliable use in a variety of applications across different countries. Annex D of the standard provides a list of products recognized and approved by their respective countries.
