Standard EN SampleStandard for Liquid-Tight Flexible Metal Conduit
Also Known As:
The UL 360:2021 standard outlines the requirements for various trade sizes (3/8 to 4) of liquid-tight flexible metal conduit made from materials such as steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, and stainless steel. This conduit is designed for installation in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) as a raceway for wires and cables.
The purpose of this conduit is to provide protection for conductors from vapors, liquids, and solids while allowing flexibility during installation, operation, or maintenance. It features a circular cross-section and consists of an outer liquid-tight, nonmetallic, sunlight-resistant jacket surrounding an inner flexible metal core. The standard specifies that this conduit is suitable for use in wet, dry, or oily locations where it may be exposed but not subject to physical damage.
The temperature rating of the conduit is indicated by markings. Conduit marked with "60 C" is suitable for use at temperatures not exceeding 60°C (140°F), while conduit with higher temperature ratings may be marked accordingly. Conduit marked "80 C dry, 60 C wet, 60 C oil res" or "80 C dry, 60 C wet, 60 C oil resistant" is intended for use at temperatures up to 80°C (176°F) in air and up to 60°C (140°F) when exposed to water, oil, or coolants.
It is important to note that the UL 360 standard does not cover liquid-tight flexible nonmetallic conduit or flexible metallic tubing. The requirements for these types of conduits are outlined in separate UL standards (UL 1660 for nonmetallic conduit and fittings, UL 514B for conduit fittings). Additionally, electrical nonmetallic tubing (ENT) is not covered by this standard.
