Standard EN SampleSecondary Cells and Batteries Containing Alkaline or Other Non-Acid Electrolytes - Safety Requirements for Portable Sealed Secondary Cells, and for Batteries Made from Them, for Use in Portable Applications - Part 2: Lithium Systems
Also Known As:
UL 62133-2:2020 is a standard that outlines safety requirements for portable sealed secondary lithium cells and batteries containing non-acid electrolytes. Its purpose is to ensure the safe operation of these batteries under normal use and reasonably foreseeable misuse conditions.
It should be noted that this standard is not sufficient on its own to evaluate the safety of end-products. It lacks specific requirements for charging, the impact of normal loads, abnormal conditions to be taken into account, as well as the physical and electromagnetic stresses that may be encountered in the intended environment of the end-product. Battery packs with additional features or circuitry, including integral circuitry that facilitates charging, are considered to be end-products and should be evaluated accordingly.
In addition, there is a modification specific to Canada, which clarifies that this standard applies to covered components used in accordance with CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 0. This highlights the relevance of complying with national regulations and standards when implementing this standard in the Canadian context.
