Standard EN SampleElectrical Metallic Tubing - Steel
Also Known As:
The UL 797:2021 standard specifies requirements for electrical metallic tubing made of steel (EMT) and elbows. This standard applies to EMT used as a metal raceway for the installation of wires and cables, in compliance with various electrical codes such as CSA C22.1, Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1, NOM-001-SEDE, Standard for Electrical Installations, and NFPA 70, National Electrical Code.
EMT is available with different types of exterior coatings, including zinc, zinc-based, nonmetallic, or other alternate corrosion-resistant coatings, along with an interior coating of either organic or zinc. The standard emphasizes that it is the responsibility of the user to determine the appropriate EMT product for their specific application.
Additionally, it is important to note that the UL 797 standard specifically covers steel EMT, while aluminum electrical metallic tubing falls under different standards listed in Reference Item No. 2 of Annex A.
