Standard EN SampleNonshielded Cable
Also Known As:
UL 2460:2020 is a standard that covers single-conductor, nonshielded cables rated at 5000 or 8000 volts and 90°C. These cables are specifically designed for use as factory-installed wiring in equipment (internal wiring) in industrial applications where they will be maintained by trained personnel. However, it is important to note that these cables are not intended for direct installation in buildings or structures in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70.
The standard specifies various constructions for these cables, which are presented in Table 1.1. This table provides information on the voltage rating, size, use, insulation material, insulation thickness, shield, and overall covering of the cables. The voltage ratings covered are 5000 volts and 8000 volts, and the sizes range from 8 AWG to 1000 kcmil. The insulation materials used can be XLPE, EPCV, DREP, or EP, depending on the specific construction. The cables may or may not have a shield, and the overall covering can be nonconductive jacket or none, depending on the construction.
It should be noted that the final acceptance of these cables is dependent on their use in complete equipment that conforms to the applicable standards. UL 2460:2020 ensures that these nonshielded cables meet specific requirements to ensure their safe and reliable use in industrial applications.
