Luminaires
Also Known As:
UL 1598:2021 is a standard that applies to luminaires used in non-hazardous locations and intended for installation on branch circuits of 600 V nominal or lower. It aligns with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I (CEC), the U.S. National Electrical Code (NEC), and the Mexican National Electrical Code (NOM-001-SEDE).
However, it's important to note that this standard does not cover certain types of luminaires that are already addressed by other standards. Some examples include amateur movie lights, aquarium lights, cabinet lights, decorative lighting strings, electric signs, exit signs, lamp adapters, low-voltage landscape lighting, low-voltage marine lighting, luminaires for hazardous locations, marine navigational lights, portable electric displays, portable hand lamps, portable luminaires, therapeutic lamps, track lighting systems, and more.
Additionally, UL 1598:2021 specifies the requirements for light emitting diode (LED) components and subassemblies that are integral to the luminaires covered by this standard. These requirements can be found in UL 8750 and CSA C22.2 No. 250.13.
