Standard for Household Electric Personal Grooming Appliances

The UL 859:2021 standard provides requirements for electric personal grooming appliances intended for household use. These appliances include hair curlers, dryers, combs, brushes, and similar devices. The standard ensures that these appliances are designed and manufactured in compliance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70.
It is important to note that UL 859:2021 does not cover appliances rated above 250 volts or appliances that fall under other specific safety standards. These include medical electrical equipment covered by UL 60601-1, personal hygiene and health care appliances covered by UL 1431, household and similar electrical appliances (such as shavers and hair clippers) covered by UL 60335-2-8, motor-operated massage and exercise machines covered by UL 1647, electric heating pads covered by UL 130, and commercial electric personal grooming appliances covered by UL 1727.
