Outline EN SampleOutline of Investigation for Outlet Branch Circuit Arc-Fault Circuit-Interrupters
Also Known As: UL SUBJECT 1699A
The UL 1699A:2010 standard focuses on arc-fault circuit-interrupters (AFCIs) used in dwelling units. AFCIs are devices designed to mitigate the risk of fire ignition caused by arcing faults in electrical circuits. These devices are limited to a maximum rating of 20 A and are intended for use in 120-V ac, 60-HZ circuits.
The standard is meant to be used in conjunction with the UL 1699 standard, which specifically addresses AFCIs. However, the UL 1699A standard modifies the requirements described in UL 1699 for AFCIs of the outlet branch circuit type. In other words, UL 1699A provides additional guidance and requirements specific to outlet branch circuit arc-fault circuit-interrupters (OBC AFCIs).
It's worth noting that throughout the outline, the terms "arc-fault circuit-interrupter" or "AFCI" specifically refer to AFCIs of the outlet branch circuit type, which are also known as OBC AFCIs. This distinction helps clarify the scope and focus of the standard.
