Standard EN SampleStandard for Cables and Cable-Fittings for Use in Hazardous (Classified) Locations
Also Known As:
The UL 2225:2020 standard covers various types of cables and cable fittings designed for use in hazardous locations. The standard specifies the requirements for different types of cables, including Type MC-HL metal-clad cables, Type ITC-HL instrumentation tray cables, and Type TC-ER-HL tray cables. These cables are intended for use in hazardous locations classified under Class I, Division 1 and 2, Class II, Division 1 and 2, and different zones.
The standard also addresses explosionproof and dust-ignitionproof cable sealing fittings. These fittings are designed to be used in hazardous locations classified under Class I, Division 1 and 2, Class II, Division 1 and Zone 1. Additionally, the standard covers explosionproof and dust-ignitionproof cable sealing fittings for Type P cable used in mobile offshore oil rigs, drilling platforms, marine vessels, and land-based gas and oil mobile drilling rigs. For offshore installations, the fittings are evaluated for conformity to the installation and use provisions of the United States Coast Guard Electrical Engineering Regulations.
Furthermore, the UL 2225:2020 standard includes provisions for increased safety "e" cable fittings and flameproof "d" cable sealing fittings for use in hazardous locations. These fittings are designed for use in Zone 1 Groups IIA, IIB, and IIC hazardous locations. The standard also covers increased safety "e" cable fittings and flameproof "d" cable sealing fittings for use on mobile offshore oil rigs, drilling platforms, and marine vessels.
Additionally, the standard addresses increased safety "e" cord connectors and flameproof "d" cord connectors for use with extra-hard usage cords in hazardous locations. It specifies dust ignition protection by enclosure "t" and "tD" cable fittings for use in hazardous locations classified under Zone 20, 21, and 22, groups IIIA, IIIB, and IIIC. The standard also covers dust ignition protection by enclosure "t" and "tD" extra-hard usage cord connectors for use in the same hazardous locations.
Finally, the UL 2225:2020 standard provides requirements for cables, cable fittings, and cord connectors for hazardous locations under specific atmospheric conditions, including a minimum ambient temperature, maximum oxygen concentration, and nominal barometric pressure.
