Standard EN SampleCurrent Taps and Adapters
Also Known As:
The UL 498A:2021 standard specifies the requirements for current taps and adapters used in accordance with the National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA-70). These requirements apply to devices rated at 200 A or below and for voltages up to 600 V.
However, it should be noted that the standard does not directly apply to current taps wired to flexible cords or lampholder adapters. Instead, it supplements the applicable standards for these specific devices. Lampholder adapters are covered under UL 496, while current taps wired to flexible cords are covered under UL 498.
The standard also excludes cord-connected, relocatable power taps intended for indoor use as temporary extensions of grounding, alternating-current branch circuits. Such power taps are covered under UL 1363.
Additionally, the standard does not cover the current or voltage conversion circuitry used in travel adapters.
In this standard, the term "device" refers to both current taps and adapters unless otherwise specified.
