Standard EN SampleExplosive Atmospheres - Part 17: Electrical Installations Inspection and Maintenance
Also Known As:
UL 60079-17:2021 standard specifies the requirements for the inspection and maintenance of electrical installations in hazardous areas where the hazard may be caused by flammable gases, vapors, mists, dusts, fibers, or flyings. This standard does not cover other fundamental installation and inspection requirements for electrical installations, the verification of electrical equipment, or the repair and reclamation of explosion-protected equipment.
The standard supplements the requirements of IEC 60364-6 NFPA 70B. It emphasizes that the level of housekeeping may influence the inspection and maintenance requirements in situations involving dusts, fibers, or flyings. The standard is applicable in areas where there can be a risk due to the presence of explosive gas or dust mixtures with air or combustible dust layers under normal atmospheric conditions.
However, the standard does not apply to underground mining areas, dusts of explosives that do not require atmospheric oxygen for combustion, or pyrophoric substances. If references are made to other IEC 60079 standards, the reference requirements found in those standards apply as modified by any applicable U.S. National Differences.
