Electromechanical Elementary Relays - Part 1: General Requirements
Also Known As:
UL 61810-1:2020 is a standard that applies to electromechanical elementary relays used in low voltage equipment. These relays are designed for circuits with voltages up to 1000 V AC or 1500 V DC. The standard defines the basic functional and safety requirements, as well as safety-related aspects, for applications across various areas of electrical engineering and electronics.
The standard covers a wide range of applications, including general industrial equipment, electrical facilities, electrical machines, household appliances, information technology and business equipment, building automation equipment, automation equipment, electrical installation equipment, medical equipment, control equipment, telecommunications, vehicles, and transportation systems such as railways.
Compliance with the requirements outlined in UL 61810-1:2020 is verified through type tests. However, if a relay is used in an application that requires additional requirements beyond what is specified in this standard, it should be assessed in accordance with the relevant IEC standard specific to that application (e.g. IEC 60730-1 for automatic electrical controls, IEC 60335-1 for household and similar electrical appliances, IEC 60950-1 for information technology equipment, etc.).
