UL 510A:2020 PDF Download

UL 510A:2020 is a standard that covers adhesive and non-adhesive backed tapes intended for use with finished electro-mechanical products. The standard provides data on the physical, electrical, flammability, thermal, adhesion, and other properties of the tapes. The objective is to guide tape manufacturers, end-product manufacturers, safety engineers, and other interested parties in selecting appropriate tapes for their applications.

In addition to comprehensive testing, the standard also covers tapes that have undergone only thickness and flammability tests. These tapes may utilize a conductive backing if they pass the flammability tests.

However, there are some exclusions from the scope of the standard. Adhesive coated polyvinyl chloride (PVC), adhesive coated polyethylene (PE), and rubber tapes intended for use on joints and splices in wires and cables, at certain temperature and voltage limits, are covered by UL 510 in the US, and by CSA C22.1 in Canada. Adhesive coated polyvinyl chloride (PVC) tapes for joints and splices in wires and cables with different temperature and voltage ratings are covered by CSA C22.2 No. 197 in Canada. These specific tapes are not addressed in UL 510A:2020.
