UL 1569:2018 PDF Download

UL 1569:2018 is a standard that specifies the requirements for metal-clad cables. These cables consist of insulated circuit conductors with or without optical-fiber members, enclosed in armor made of interlocked metal strip or a smooth/corrugated metal tube. The cables can be round or flat, with round cables containing one or more insulated circuit conductors and flat cables containing two or three insulated circuit conductors.

This standard covers metal-clad cables that are used as Type MC cables in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70, and other applicable electrical installation standards. The cables are suitable for use in various electrical applications and can be used for both electrical and hybrid electrical/optical-fiber functions in the case of hybrid cables.

It is important to note that Type AC armored cables are covered by a separate standard, UL 4. Additionally, metal-clad cables intended for use in hazardous locations need to comply with this standard as well as UL 2225, which covers cable-sealing fittings for use in hazardous (classified) locations.

The standard specifies that the cables have thermoplastic or thermoset insulation and are rated for voltage not exceeding 600 V (thermoplastic) or 600 or 2000 V (thermoset). The temperature ratings of the circuit conductors in the cable determine the maximum temperature the cables can withstand, which can be either 75°C or 90°C.

However, it is important to note that this standard does not cover medium-voltage (MV) cables rated for 2400-35000 V. MV cables are covered by a separate standard, UL 1072 or NMX-J-142/1-ANCE. It is worth mentioning that a multiple-conductor MV cable with a smooth or corrugated metal sheath or interlocked metal armor may also be marked for use as Type MC cable.

Lastly, the standard does not cover the optical or other performance aspects of any optical-fiber member or group of members within the metal-clad cables.
