Standard EN SampleStandard for Transformers, Distribution, Dry-Type - Over 600 Volts
Also Known As:
The UL 1562:2020 standard provides requirements for single-phase or three-phase, dry-type, distribution transformers. These transformers can be either solid cast or resin encapsulated and are designed for use with primary or secondary voltages ranging from 601 to 35,000 volts. The transformers may have either ventilated or non-ventilated enclosures.
The standard specifies that these transformers should be installed in accordance with the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70. It should be noted that the UL 1562 standard does not cover certain types of transformers, including instrument transformers, step-voltage and induction voltage regulators, current regulators, arc furnace transformers, rectifier transformers, specialty transformers, mining transformers, and motor-starting reactors and transformers.
Furthermore, the requirements of the UL 1562 standard do not apply to transformers that are exclusively controlled by electrical utilities. These transformers may be used for communication, metering, generation, control, transformation, transmission, and distribution of electric energy. They may be located indoors in utility-owned buildings and rooms or outdoors on utility-owned or publicly owned rights of way.
