Also Known As:
The UL 198M:2018 Standard for Mine-Duty Fuses is a set of safety requirements for Class K and Class R fuses with an additional D-C rating. These fuses are specifically designed to protect trailing cables in D-C circuits in mines, in compliance with the regulations of the United States Department of Labor, Mine Safety and Health Administration.
These fuses are limited to a maximum current rating of 600 A and have a voltage rating of either 300 or 600 V dc. They are also required to have an interrupting rating of 20,000 A dc. These specifications ensure that the fuses are suitable for use in the demanding and potentially hazardous conditions found in mine environments.
The purpose of the UL 198M standard is to ensure the safety and reliability of mine-duty fuses by establishing specific requirements that manufacturers must meet.
