Plugs, Receptacles, and Cable Connectors of the Pin and Sleeve Type
Also Known As:
UL 1682:2017 standard covers pin and sleeve type plugs, receptacles, power inlets, and connectors. These devices are used to provide power from branch circuits or for direct connection to the branch circuit, up to a maximum rating of 800 amperes and 600 volts AC or DC. The standard applies to indoor or outdoor nonhazardous locations and requires the use of copper conductors.
It is important to note that this standard does not apply to single conductor pin and sleeve devices, which are covered by a separate standard. Additionally, UL 1682 does not cover devices that are molded integrally with flexible cord or cable, as these are covered by other standards such as UL 817, CSA C22.2 No. 21, and NMX-J-195-ANCE. General and special use devices like attachment plugs, receptacles, cord connectors, inlets, and current taps are also excluded from this standard. Single and multi-pole connectors for data, signal, control, and power applications, as well as devices intended for hazardous locations, switched interlocks, and others are covered by their respective standards.
