Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-79: Particular Requirements for High Pressure Cleaners and Steam Cleaners
Also Known As:
UL 60335-2-79:2016 is a standard that specifically addresses the safety requirements for high pressure cleaners and steam cleaners used in household, industrial, and commercial settings. The standard covers appliances that have a hand-supported and manipulated discharge line, with a pressure range between 2.5 MPa and 25 MPa. The input for the high pressure pump should not exceed 10 kW for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances.
The standard also applies to industrial and commercial steam cleaners with a water container capacity of up to 1,000 liters and a rated pressure not exceeding 3.2 MPa. It takes into consideration the hazards presented by appliances used in and around homes, but does not account for the use of appliances by young children or infirm persons without supervision.
Additionally, UL 60335-2-79:2016 does not apply to appliances used in vehicles, on ships or aircraft, or under special conditions such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres. It also does not cover audio, video, and electronic apparatus, medical appliances, hand-held motor-operated electric tools, personal computers, transportable motor-operated electric tools, or steam cleaners for household use only.
The standard includes modifications that specify the maximum system pressure for high pressure cleaners, the input to the drive for the high pressure pump, and the rated voltage for different types of appliances. It also addresses the exclusion of specific products such as liquid sand blasters, steam-generating products connected to an external source, and burners with high input ratings.
