Standard for Electric Fans
Also Known As:
UL 507:2020 is a standard that provides requirements for electric fans. The standard covers various types of fans and blowers that circulate, ventilate, and exhaust air, such as desk fans, ceiling-suspended fans, attic fans, through wall fans, and more. It also includes dryer type fans, evaporative coolers, air-filtering appliances, component fans, and residential cooking area fans, among others. The products covered by the standard are rated 600 volts or less and are intended to be used in accordance with the National Electrical Code.
However, there are certain types of fans and related equipment that are not covered by UL 507:2020. These include air heaters incorporating fans, fusible links for fire safety, fans for hazardous locations, fans intended for use with solvents or chemically flammable liquids, and fans located in chemically corrosive environments. Other exclusions include humidifiers, fans for moving heated or conditioned air, heated hand dryers, ionizers or electrostatic air cleaners, blowers or inflators for inflatable bouncing toys, and certain other equipment like microwaves, heat recovery ventilators, and deodorizers/air fresheners. These exclusions highlight the specific focus and limitations of the UL 507 standard.
