Standard EN SampleStandard for Automatic Electrical Controls for Household and Similar Use; Part 2: Particular Requirements for Electrically Operated Door Locks
Also Known As:
UL 60730-2-12:2017 is a standard that focuses on the particular requirements for electrically operated door locks used in household and similar applications. The standard applies to equipment such as appliances, control systems, and other devices used in heating, air-conditioning, and similar applications. It also includes equipment intended for use by the public in shops, offices, hospitals, farms, and commercial and industrial applications.
However, this standard does not apply to electrically operated door locks intended exclusively for industrial process applications, unless specified in the equipment standard. Additionally, it does not cover door locks intended for security access applications.
The standard encompasses the inherent safety, operating values, operating sequences associated with equipment protection, and testing of door locks. It is also applicable to door locks utilized as part of a control system or mechanically integrated with multi-functional controls. Door locks used in equipment not intended for normal household use, but still accessible to the public, fall within the scope of this standard. Furthermore, it addresses the functional safety of low complexity safety-related systems and controls utilizing door locks as actuating elements.
UL 60730-2-12 applies to door locks with electrical circuits and control circuits, which can be operated by various mechanisms such as bimetals, magnet coils, memory metals, pressure elements, temperature-sensitive expansion elements, or electronic elements. The standard also covers manual controls that are electrically and/or mechanically integral with the door locks.
It should be noted that the standard does not determine the response value of an automatic action of a door lock, as it may depend on the method of mounting the control in the equipment. When a response value is crucial for the user's protection or the surroundings, the value defined in the appropriate equipment standard or specified by the manufacturer should be followed.
Additionally, UL 60730-2-12 covers door locks incorporating electronic devices, with specific requirements detailed in Annex h, and door locks using thermistors, with requirements outlined in Annex J.
