Laboratory Test Procedures for Evaluation of SOHIC Resistance of Plate Steels Used in Wet H2S Service

SKU158981749 Published by National Association of Corrosion Engineers NACE Publication Date2003-01-17 Pages CountPages28

The NACE TM0103-2003 standard focuses on the evaluation of carbon steels' susceptibility to cracking in aqueous hydrogen sulfide (H2S) environments. The phenomenon known as SOHIC is specifically addressed in this standard.

The standard provides specifications for the reagents, test specimens, testing apparatus, base material, test solutions, test procedures, and test specimen evaluation procedures for conducting a NACE standard double-beam (DB) test for SOHIC. This test evaluates the resistance of the material to through-thickness cracking in the presence of a tensile stress and a stress concentrator used to initiate cracking.

Additionally, the standard includes an alternative SOHIC test procedure using the existing NACE Standard TM0177 Method A (Tensile Test). This section provides additional requirements for the TM0177 Method A procedures when time-to-failure data or a threshold stress approach is needed to evaluate SOHIC.

Appendices A through D of the standard provide recommended and optional procedures, as well as related information that may be useful in the testing of carbon steels and weldments for SOHIC.
