Standard EN SampleHigh-Voltage Direct Current Interference
Also Known As:
The NACE 05114-2014 standard is a technical committee report that aims to provide information and data on the operation of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems and their impact on various metallic structures. These structures include underground/underwater or surface infrastructure such as pipelines, telephone lines, electric power cables, cable television signal transmission (CATV) cables, railways, and reinforced concrete structures.
The report is specifically targeted towards individuals involved in industries related to pipelines, water, cables, railways, and electrical transmission and distribution. It addresses the issue of stray direct current (DC) that is associated with HVDC transmission systems. This stray DC can arise from the regular operation of monopolar transmission systems, as well as from unbalanced currents in bipolar transmission systems.
The standard recognizes that significant levels of stray DC can also be generated by bipolar transmission systems when operating in monopolar mode using the earth as a return circuit. This can occur due to equipment faults or during planned maintenance of the system or converters.
