Also Known As:
The ISA RP12.12.03-2002 standard provides guidance on the safe use of general-purpose portable electronic products in certain hazardous locations. It specifically addresses body-worn and handheld devices used in Class I, and II, Division 2, Class I, Zone 2, and Class III, Division 1 and 2 Hazardous (Classified) Locations that are not specifically designed for use in such environments and lack the necessary certifications for hazardous environments.
The standard does not cover other aspects related to the use of portable electronic products that may create distractions or radio frequency interference with measurement and control equipment. It also does not apply to products that are powered by premises wiring or connected to a communication line while being used in the hazardous location. The purpose of this recommended practice is to ensure that portable electronic products can be safely used in hazardous locations without compromising the safety of the environment or the individuals working in those areas.
