IPC 7351B:2010 is a standard that outlines the generic requirements for surface mount design and land pattern standards. It covers various types of components, ranging from passive to active ones, such as resistors, capacitors, MELFs, SSOPs, TSSOPs, QFPs, BGAs, QFNs, and SONs. The standard provides designers with a comprehensive set of guidelines, including an intelligent land pattern naming convention, zero component rotations for CAD systems, and three different land pattern geometries for each component to accommodate different component densities.

In addition to the original version, Revision B of this standard also includes design guidance and rules for additional component families, such as resistor array packages, aluminum electrolytic capacitors, column and land grid arrays, flat lead devices (SOFL and SOTFL), and dual flat no-lead (DFN) devices. It also addresses the usage of thermal tabs and introduces a new padstack naming convention, which specifies the shape and dimensions of lands on different layers of printed boards.
