Fixed Capacitors for Use in Electronic Equipment - Part 19: Sectional Specification: Fixed Metallized Polyethylene Terephthalate Film Dielectric Surface Mount DC Capacitors

IEC 60384-19:2022 is a standard that specifically focuses on fixed surface mount capacitors for direct current applications in electronic equipment. These capacitors are made with metallized electrodes and a polyethylene-terephthalate dielectric. Their design allows for mounting directly onto printed circuit boards or hybrid circuit substrates. The capacitors may possess "self-healing properties" based on their conditions of use, and are primarily intended for applications with a small AC component in relation to the rated voltage.

The standard specifies preferred ratings and characteristics for these capacitors, and it selects appropriate quality assessment procedures, tests, and measuring methods from IEC 60384-1:2021. It also outlines general performance requirements for this specific type of capacitor. Detailed specifications referring to this sectional specification must adhere to equal or higher performance levels; lower performance levels are not allowed.

It is important to note that this standard does not cover capacitors used for electromagnetic interference suppression, as they fall under the scope of IEC 60384-14.

The 2022 edition of IEC 60384-19 incorporates several significant technical changes compared to the previous edition. These changes include revising the document according to the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2:2021, and harmonizing it with other similar documents. The document structure has been organized to align with the new sectional specification structure decided in TC 40. Tables and Clause 5 have been revised to prevent duplications and contradictions.

Various additions have been made to address specific aspects, such as mounting, shear testing, component solvent resistance, solvent resistance of marking, and the tangent of loss angle measurement in the resistance to soldering heat test. Lot-by-lot and periodic inspection tables with requirements have been moved to Annex A, and the Inspection Level (IL) of the A1 subgroup has been revised. These changes and additions aim to improve the standard's clarity, accuracy, and applicability to current industry practices.
