Primary batteries - Part 4: Safety of Lithium Batteries
Also Known As:
IEC 60086-4:2019 is a standard that specifies tests and requirements for primary lithium batteries to ensure their safe operation. The standard applies to primary lithium batteries that are standardized in IEC 60086-2, but it can also be used to measure and ensure the safety of non-standardized primary lithium batteries. However, compliance with this standard does not guarantee that the batteries will fulfill specific user purposes or needs.
The fifth edition of the standard, published in 2019, includes several technical changes compared to the previous edition. These changes include revised criteria for an explosion, the addition of test parameters for specific battery types, the introduction of a new subclause on validity of testing, a revised pictogram, and the addition of two new annexes. Annex E contains requirements for child resistant packaging of coin cells, while Annex F provides recommendations on the use of the "KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN" safety sign.
It should be noted that the standard incorporates the contents of the corrigendum of October 2019 and April 2020, as well as the interpretation sheet of May 2020.
