The standard defines the types of cables that fall under its scope, which include neutral supported service drop cables and neutral supported secondary distribution cables. These cables are suitable for circuits with voltages not exceeding 600 volts phase-to-phase or 480 volts phase-to-ground, and have a normal service conductor temperature rating of either 75°C or 90°C.

In cases where a referenced industry standard conflicts with the requirements of ICEA S-76-474:2011, the latter takes precedence.
