Standard EN SampleTest Method for Conducting Longitudinal Water Penetration Resistance Tests on Blocked Conductors
Also Known As:
The ICEA T-31-610:2014 standard is a test method that establishes procedures for testing the ability of water blocking components to prevent water penetration along the length of blocked conductors in cables. The purpose of this standard is to determine the effectiveness of the water-blocking components in preventing longitudinal water penetration into the conductor.
The tests conducted under this standard are used for both qualification testing and production testing. Qualification testing is performed to ensure that the cable meets the required standards and can be used for the intended application. Production testing is carried out to ensure that the cables manufactured in accordance with the standard continue to meet the specified requirements.
Importantly, this standard also recognizes that cables that have already been qualified under previous editions of T-31-610 do not need to be retested. This provision allows for cost and time savings for manufacturers and ensures that previously qualified cables can still be used without further testing.
