Standard EN SampleStandard for 600 Volt Rated Cables of Ruggedized Design for Direct Burial Installations as Single Conductors or Assemblies of Single Conductors
Also Known As:
The ICEA S-81-570:2005 standard provides guidelines for the materials, construction, and testing of cables used for distributing electrical energy. Specifically, this standard applies to single conductor cables and assemblies of single conductor cables that are used for phase-to-phase voltages not exceeding 600 volts, or phase-to-ground voltages not exceeding 480 volts. The temperature limit for these cables is 75°C or 90°C, depending on their construction.
The standard emphasizes the use of ruggedized extruded insulations for these cables to enhance their resistance against mechanical damage that may occur during direct burial installations. By employing this type of insulation, the cables are better able to withstand the specific conditions associated with being directly buried. Additionally, the cables that adhere to this standard can also be used in other installations, provided they are operated within the stated voltage and temperature limits.
