Standard EN SampleIndoor-Outdoor Optical Fiber Cable
Also Known As:
ICEA S-104-696:2019 is a standard that specifies the requirements for indoor-outdoor optical fiber cables. These cables are typically derived from outdoor cable designs and are modified to meet fire rating requirements while maintaining their thermal and mechanical robustness. They are designed to be used in the outside plant environment as well as within buildings to transmit voice, video, and data signals.
The standard allows for the use of weatherized indoor cables for limited outside exposure of less than 10 meters. These weatherized cables must comply with the requirements specified in ICEA S-83-596, with the requirements in Part 1 through 8 of S-104-696 being invoked only as necessary.
Cables compliant with S-104-696 are considered compliant with S-83-596. The standard also provides guidance on temperature ranges and tensile ratings for these cables. It specifies the standard minimum bend diameters for different cable types, and allows for smaller bend diameters if agreed upon between the user and manufacturer. Additionally, the cables covered by this standard must comply with relevant fire resistance codes.
